Medical search engine at iPhone

MedTango.com has developped an iPhone version of their Medical Search Engine that is very impressive. It contains all the information that are in the web version of the web application, but totally adapted to the iPhone. Very good job from the team behind it.

Your iPhone is also automatically detected apparently, I guess the iPod Touch as well.

MedTango is also available on Android, I’ve just tested on my Google Nexus One, and it looks the same as on the iPhone.

Will you buy iPhone 5 without 4G?

iPhone 5 without 4G

With the news of next genaration iphone rumors continue to spread about whether it will support high-speed 4G data . Verizon’s 4G service, which is already being rolled out, is called LTE (Long Term Evolution) and Sprint’s is WiMax. To confuse matters, AT&T is supposed to roll out its LTE network later this year in select markets, but in the meantime, like T-Mobile, it’s calling its HSPA+ network 4G when it’s more like 3.5G (HSPA+ is not considered a true 4G networ.

What are the odds of the next iPhone having LTE support? That’s hard to say, but a few months ago Apple’s Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook stated that the “first generation of LTE chipsets force a lot of design compromises.” Meanwhile, all Verizon has said is that its next iPhone would be a world phone (it will work on both CDMA and GSM networks), but said it was up to Apple whether the phone would include support for LTE (4G) networks.

The question is, how much do you care? Which is why we’ve come up with this little poll asking whether you’d buy an iPhone 5 if it doesn’t support anything less than true 4G (it will almost certainly support HSPA+).

Feel free at the comment section… we will be happy if you make your own comment… your review…

Apple hasn’t even released the iPad 2 yet but there are already rumors about an iPad 3?

Our 3D animation studio here at Mediafreaks have been keeping tabs on the activity in the Apple front and we think that something is cooking with regards to their celebrated tablet, the iPad. The iPad 3?

Wait, Apple hasn’t even released the iPad 2 yet but there are already rumors about an iPad 3?

These are speculations which arose during the announcement of HP’s purported iPad-killer: the Touchpad. Some analysts have seen the Touchpad as a worthy adversary to the Tablet but its release date will be months behind and may not only bump into the supposed release of the iPad 2; it might even offset the arrival of the iPad 3.

These are hypotheses at this point but other industry insiders are observing that Apple seems to be gathering the parts for a big fall release.

As for the iPad 2, it has not yet been announced but more or less it is an industry open secret. Some of the purported feature additions include a front-facing camera, a faster processor, more RAM, and support for more networks. If the iPad 3 will even come out, some experts think it will be more of an iPad 2.5 (just adding more features to the deal)

Apple iPhone’s Operating System (iOS)

iOS (known as iPhone OS prior to June 2010) is Apple’s mobile operating system. Originally developed for the iPhone, it has since been extended to support other Apple devices such as the iPod touch, iPad and Apple TV. Apple does not license iOS for installation on third-party hardware. As of January 14, 2011, Apple’s App Store contains more than 300,000 iOS applications, which have collectively been downloaded more than 10 billion times. In the last quarter of 2010, it had a 16% share of the smartphone operating system market in terms of units sold, third behind Google’s Android and Symbian. As of May 2010 it accounted for 59% of mobile web consumption (not including the iPad) in North America.

The user interface of iOS is based on the concept of direct manipulation, using multi-touch gestures. Interface control elements consist of sliders, switches, and buttons. The response to user input is immediate and provides a fluid interface. Interaction with the OS includes gestures such as swipe, tap, pinch, and reverse pinch, all of which have specific definitions within the context of the iOS operating system and its multitouch interface. Internal accelerometers are used by some applications to respond to shaking the device (one common result is the undo command) or rotating it in three dimensions (one common result is switching from portrait to landscape mode).

iOS is derived from Mac OS X, with which it shares the Darwin foundation, and is therefore a Unix-like operating system by nature.

In iOS, there are four abstraction layers: the Core OS layer, the Core Services layer, the Media layer, and the Cocoa Touch layer. The operating system uses roughly 500 megabytes of the device’s storage, varying for each model.

Auto Ringtone Pro v6.1 Review

AutoRingTone Pro Text to Speech Ringtones is an incredibly long title for a very simple tool; basically, it allows you to create your own ringtones. Unlike RingToneMaker Pro though, it converts text to speech rather than making music clips for your ringtone. It’s very quirky and there’s no denying that you’ll have an unique ringtone compared to everyone else.

There are dozens of different voices available to use as well as hundreds of sound effects to add to the tone. Quite a few quirky effects are on offer such as robots, aliens, a dog barking or a human screaming. Voices can be as regular as an American man or as creepy as the Devil. AutoRingTone Pro also requests your name so that it can offer a personalised message, plus you can create one for each of your contacts by adding their name to the message. Each ringtone can be previewed from your iPhone so it’s quite easy to spend a long time messing around until you settle on your favourite.

Once you’ve decided and finished messing around with the app, check your email inbox and AutoRingTone has contacted you with a web address containing all your created ringtones. It then explains in a few very simple steps how to transfer them from your PC to your phone. It’s all very simple to do and novices will be able to adjust perfectly easily. While Apple doesn’t allow apps to install ringtones, this feels like the next best thing and certainly isn’t fiddly. No Tie software even promises that ringtones can be made for other phones although I didn’t have a spare phone to confirm this.

AutoRingTone Pro does exactly what it says in the title. It’s very easy to use and serves a great purpose. Sure you won’t be using it every day of the week after the initial craze to create hundreds of different ringtones but it is something that you’ll find yourself returning to when you fancy a change of ringtone.

wait for iphone 5 or take verizons unlimited data?

Most people don’t use more than 2GB of data per month. So even though you may feel compelled to rush over to Verizon Wireless now for the unlimited data plan, most likely you’ll be fine without it. So I wouldn’t make any rash decisions just because you want to hold onto your unlimited data plan.

To answer your question regarding the iPhone 5, rumor has it that it will be announced in September. What we know so far is that the new version will look very similar to the iPhone 4. But inside there are some tweaks that will improve performance. For one, it’s supposed to have a faster processor, the A5, which is the same one used in the iPad 2, and a higher resolution camera. It will also get a new camera that will be an 8 megapixel camera instead of the 5 megapixel camera on the iPhone 4.

I doubt the iPhone 5 will support 4G LTE, since Apple rarely is on the cutting edge in terms of the components it uses in its products. The new 4G LTE phones are still having battery life issues. So I am sure that Apple will want to wait until the technology matures before putting it into the iPhone. Plus, the LTE services from either AT&T or Verizon Wireless aren’t widely available. Verizon Wireless says that it has 74 markets covered. But the LTE footprint won’t match its 3G footprint until 2013. Meanwhile AT&T hasn’t even started offering 4G LTE yet. It is supposed to be in 15 markets by the end of the year.

That said, AT&T is using HSPA+ in its network too, which is an upgrade to the current 3G technology. So it’s possible that that iPhone 5 might support HSAP+ in the GSM version, which could give it a speed boost.

Of course, all of this is speculation. We won’t know what features the next iPhone will have until it’s announced.

So here’s my advice, just wait for the next iPhone. It will be more advanced than the iPhone 4. We just don’t know how much more advanced. And at that point you can decide between AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

Verizon does have a better reputation in terms of its network. And unless you’re a very heavy data user, you should be fine with the new 2GB cap.

I hope this helps.
